I visited Kek & Hutan Cafe recently and it makes for a pleasant stop if you’re craving good cakes and light meals. Their specialty is kek lapis Sarawak (layered cakes) in many flavours—some of them are creative (like gula apong, blueberry cheesecake etc.)—and the texture/melting-in-your-mouth factor is generally good. The cafe also serves savoury items such as Mee Kolok Special, Laksa Sarawak, and Nasi Daging Masak Hitam, which provides variety beyond just desserts.
Ambience is cosy and calm—decor is soft, not flashy, which suits those who want to relax without loud surroundings. Service is friendly; the staff seem accustomed to people hanging out, lingering over cakes and drinks. One thing to note: it gets crowded during more popular hours, and seating can feel tight on the ground floor. Prices are reasonable for café cake/dessert places, though some savoury dishes portion size may seem small for the price.
